Photosynthesis in Eurasian Watermilfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum L.).

چکیده
Gas exchange of Eurasian watermilfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum L.) indicated a near-zero CO(2) compensation point and a high temperature optimum for photosynthesis. These properties are characteristic of plants fixing CO(2) by a beta-carboxylation mechanism. Operation of the Calvin cycle was shown and no evidence for beta-carboxylation was obtained. These results indicate that near-zero CO(2) compensation points are not dependent on a beta-carboxylation mechanism.

Eurasian Watermilfoil and Parrotfeather Control Using Carfentrazone-ethyl
Two invasive weed species, Eurasian watermilfoil ( Myriophyllum spicatum L.) and parrotfeather [ Myriophyllum aquaticum (Vell.) Verdc.], were grown in outdoor mesocosms to determine the efficacy of carfentrazone-ethyl (a,2-dichloro-5[4-(difluoromethyl)-4,5-dihydro-3-methyl-5-oxo-1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl]-4-fluorobenzenepropanoic acid, ethyl ester), alone and in combination with 2,4-D, a herbicide ...
متن کاملHybrid watermilfoil lineages are more invasive and less sensitive to a commonly used herbicide than their exotic parent (Eurasian watermilfoil)
Hybridization may stimulate the evolution of invasiveness in human-impacted habitats if unique hybrid genotypes have higher fitness than parental genotypes. Human efforts to control invasive taxa frequently involve the intentional alteration of habitats, but few studies have considered whether hybridization can result in decreased sensitivity to control measures. Here, we investigate whether in...
متن کاملCombinations of Endothall with 2,4-D and Triclopyr for Eurasian Watermilfoil Control
BACKGROUND: Eurasian watermilfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum L.) is a widespread submersed aquatic plant that causes nuisance problems across the continental United States. Eurasian watermilfoil is an herbaceous perennial submersed aquatic plant that typically grows in water depths of 1 to 3 m (Aiken et al. 1979). Vegetative propagation is either by direct stem fragments or by autofragmentation thr...
متن کاملLife History and Developmental Performance of the Eurasian Milfoil Weevil, Eubrychius Velutus (coleoptera: Curculionidae)
Eubrychius velutus Beck is an aquatic weevil distributed throughout Europe and Asia. It is closely related to Euhrychiopsis lecontei Dietz, which is native to North America and is a potential biological control agent of Eurasian watermilfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum L.). Both weevils are watermilfoil (Myriophyllum) specialists and complete all life stages submersed on the plants. Eubrychius velut...
متن کاملA KASP Genotyping Method to Identify Northern Watermilfoil, Eurasian Watermilfoil, and Their Interspecific Hybrids
The invasive aquatic plant Eurasian watermilfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum L.) can hybridize with the related North American native species northern watermilfoil (M. sibiricum Kom.). Hybrid watermilfoil (M. spicatum × M. sibiricum) populations have higher fitness and reduced sensitivity to some commonly used aquatic herbicides, making management more difficult. There is growing concern that manage...
